Behind the practice

I’m Tsvetelina Kovacheva, an artist and maker working across clay, natural colour, drawing and experimental material processes. Crafty Place grew from a need for a space where making, research and nature could meet — slowly, directly and without separating creative practice from everyday life.

One material leads to another

My practice did not begin with one medium. It moved gradually from drawing and watercolour into clay, plant colour, pigments, minerals, fire and ceramic sound. Each material opened another question, and one process naturally led to the next.

A way of working

I work through observation, testing and making. I am interested in processes where the material keeps some agency — where fire, plants, earth, time and the hand leave traces that cannot be completely controlled.

From material to research

Making often becomes a form of research. I keep samples, compare results, document processes and return to the same material more than once. Over time, these notes and experiments become a working archive — and sometimes the beginning of a new project.

Crafty Place became the physical extension of this practice: a working studio, a place for small-group learning, invited artists, material experiments and projects that need time. It is not built around one discipline. What connects the work is attention to material, process and the possibility of learning through making.

Between making and systems

Alongside my artistic practice, I have spent many years working with technology, systems and structured problem-solving. That background shapes the way I approach materials: I test, compare, document and build tools around what I learn.

The practice is still growing

Through materials, people, seasons and the questions that appear along the way.
