About the event
We begin the Quiet Practices program on March 8 with something special for women — Kurinuki.
Kurinuki is a Japanese technique for working with a solid block of clay, where the form is not built but revealed through removal — much like carving stone. It is a day devoted to slowness, attention, and listening to the material.
Kurinuki (刳り貫き) is a traditional Japanese hand-building ceramic technique and the complete opposite of working on a pottery wheel or using coil or slab construction.
The name literally means “to hollow out” or “to carve from within.”
Experience Program
Gathering & “Wild Looking” - We begin with a short walk around the village of Vlado Trichkov. We don’t simply walk — we tune our eyes. We search for textures: cracks in rocks, tree bark, the shapes of river stones. These impressions will later be translated into clay.
